No date this Valentine's Day? Animal shelters offering dogs, cats for cuddly sleepovers

Looking for a date for Valentine's Day? Best Friends Animal Society has a few furry options. Cuddles and kisses guaranteed.

On Valentine's Day on Friday, the animal welfare organization is offering pet lovers a chance to have a sleepover with a dog or a cat from shelters across the country.

"Instead of going out this February 14, why not make a dog or cat looking for a loving home your Valentine?" Best Friends said in a news release. "Give them a night they’ll never forget that might just change their life - no prix fixe menus necessary."

How to score the Valentine's Day date

Best Friends Animal Society's Valentine’s Day sleepovers kick off on Feb. 14 and those interested can stop by a shelter anytime between Feb. 14 and 17 to pick their date. Those interested can also visit Best Friend's website to "view potential long-term love connections."

"Fostering is an essential part of the lifesaving process," Best Friends said in the news release. "This important step also provides crucial personality information on a pet to the animal shelter or rescue group, which can help make better adoption matches for the adoptable dogs and cats."

Best Friends aims to make the country no-kill this year. The organization, founded in 1984, says it has helped "reduce the number of animals killed in shelters from an estimated 17 million per year to 415,000 last year."
